Purchasing an archery set advertised on a TV programme
Question:-
I have been interested in archery for some time now, and wanted to know if it is permissible to purchase archery sets and equipment that is sold online via a Turkish website?
The following statement is found on most of the items: “This Handmade Archery Set Bow Arrows are the same which you see on TV series Dirilis Ertugrul in Turkey.” Would it be permissible to purchase these items, as they seem to be linked to the TV show?
Answer:-
It seems that the statement recorded on the archery sets is for advertising purposes. If this is the case, then there is no harm in purchasing the sets. This would mean that they are simply trying to attract more customers to purchase the archery sets by attributing it to the television series. (This in no ways indicates that watching television is permitted. We hold the view that watching television is totally Haraam irrespective of the nature of the programme.) However, if the same archery sets are used to kill or cause injury to Muslims (in the television series), then it shouldn’t be purchased. The items should then be purchased from another supplier or manufacturer.
