Question:-
Many people put up Ramadaan and Eid Mubaarak status etc.. Most of them have a picture of lanterns or candles.. Is this permitted?
Answer:-
The greetings described in your query is similar to non-Muslim greetings on their religious festivals such as Diwali, hence Muslims should refrain from imitating them. Furthermore, the righteous and pious have never sent out such greetings in the past, nor do they send out such greetings at present, hence we too should refrain from doing so. We Muslims celebrate on the days of Eid by engaging in additional Ibaadat, that is by performing two more Rakaats of Waajib Salaah. In conclusion, we should hold firmly onto the teachings of Deen.
وَلا تَرْكَنُوا إِلَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا فَتَمَسَّكُمُ النَّارُ وَمَا لَكُمْ مِنْ دُونِ الله مِنْ أَوْلِيَاءَ ثُمَّ لا تُنْصَرُونَ (سورة هود)
