Removing Nazar with chillies

Question:-

There are Muslim ladies in particular who move salt or dry red chillies around a child or adult saying that they are removing the effects of the evil eye. I don’t know whether this is something that Muslims should be doing or not, but I would like to know where did this practice originate from, and what are the consequences of Muslims doing this? Kindly advise what should one do if afflicted with the evil eye?

Answer:-

Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah states that it is permissible to remove Nazar by reciting verses of the Quraan Sharif on chillies and thereafter burning the chillies. However, one should not recite anything that is against Shariah nor should one seek any form of assistance from idols, Jinn or Shaytaan. [Re:- Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah Pg. 331 Vol.28] One should recite the Manzil daily which is extremely effective and serves as protection from Jinn, Jadu and the evil eye.    

وَفِيهَا لَا بَأْسَ بِوَضْعِ الْجَمَاجِمِ فِي الزَّرْعِ وَالْمَبْطَخَةِ لِدَفْعِ ضَرَرِ الْعَيْنِ، لِأَنَّ الْعَيْنَ حَقٌّ تُصِيبُ الْمَالَ، وَالْآدَمِيَّ وَالْحَيَوَانَ وَيَظْهَرُ أَثَرُهُ فِي ذَلِكَ عُرِفَ بِالْآثَارِ فَإِذَا نَظَرَ النَّاظِرُ إلَى الزَّرْعِ يَقَعُ نَظَرُهُ أَوَّلًا عَلَى الْجَمَاجِمِ، لِارْتِفَاعِهَا فَنَظَرُهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ إلَى الْحَرْثِ لَا يَضُرُّهُ رُوِيَ «أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إلَى النَّبِيِّ – صَلَّى اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ – وَقَالَتْ نَحْنُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْحَرْثِ وَإِنَّا نَخَافُ عَلَيْهِ الْعَيْنَ فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ – صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ – أَنْ يُجْعَلَ فِيهِ الْجَمَاجِمُ» اهـ (الشامي ص364 ج6)
