Reward of moving over to husband’s residence after marriage
Question:-
When a woman leaves her maiden home and moves in with her husband (whether in the same town or another) – are there any rewards mentioned for this? Can it be considered as a form of ‘Hijrat’ where the virtues of Hijrat would then be linked?
Answer:-
In Ma’ariful Quraan, Mufti Muhammad Shafi Saheb Rahimahullah has listed the various categories of Hijrat. A total of approximately 15 categories of Hijrat have been mentioned. However, moving over to the husband’s residence after marriage has not been listed as a type of Hijrat. [Re:- Ma’ariful Quraan Pg.341-343 Vol.5]
Also, we tried searching for narrations in this regard but were unable to locate any narration. However, making Nikah, serving one’s husband, bearing children and nurturing them in accordance to the Shariah, is a means of attaining great rewards.
A narration states that a woman who obeys her husband, fulfils his right, remembers his good, refrains from the deception of herself and wealth, then she will be just a rank lower than the martyrs in Jannah. [Re: Kanzul Ummaal Pg.144 Vol.16 / Jannati Awrat Pg.45]
Another narration of Kanz states that the Khidmat of the wife for her husband is a means of Sadaqah (for her). [Re: Kanzul Ummaal Pg.169 Vol.16]
It is recorded in a narration of Baihaqi that females remaining engaged in their household chores, will be a means of them attaining the rewards of Jihaad. [Re:- Baihaqi Pg.420 Vol.6 / Jannati Awrat Pg.29]
It is recorded in a narration of Majma’uz Zawaa’id that the eight doors of Jannat are opened for a woman who feared her Rabb, protected her chastity and obeyed her husband. She will be told to enter from any of the doors that she wishes. [Re:- Majma’uz Zawaa’id Pg.306 Vol.4]
The rewards all these actions is generally possible after moving over to the husband’s home. In conclusion, her rewards would possibly surpass that of Hijrat, particularly if she serves her husband and family, and protects herself from evil and wrong.
