Salaah on a couch

Question:-

If, due to injury, a person has to sit and perform Salaah, will it be permissible to sit on a couch/sofa?

Answer:-

If one is unable to perform Salaah whilst standing or sitting on the floor, then as a last resort he may perform Salaah whilst sitting on a chair. If he is uncomfortable performing Salaah on a normal chair due to injury or pain, then he is permitted to perform Salaah in any way that may be convenient for him, which includes sitting on a couch and performing Salaah.

من تعذر عليه القيام) أي كله (لمرض) حقيقي وحده أن يلحقه بالقيام ضرر، وبه يفتى (قبلها أو فيها) أي الفريضة (أو) حكمي بأن (خاف زيادته، أو بطء برئه بقيامه، أو دوران رأسه، أو وجد لقيامه ألما شديدا) أو كان لو صلى قائما سلسل بوله، أو تعذر عليه الصوم كما مر (صلى قاعدا) ولو مستندا إلى وسادة أو إنسان فإنه يلزمه ذلك على المختار (كيف شاء) على المذهب، لان المرض أسقط عنه الاركان فالهيئات أولى. (الدر المختار ص565 /566 ج2 – ص101 ج1)

عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ كَانَ بِىَ النَّاصُورُ فَسَأَلْتُ النَّبِىَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَقَالَ صَلِّ قَائِمًا فَإِنْ لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ فَقَاعِدًا فَإِنْ لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَى جَنْبٍ. (سنن ابي داود ص144ج1)

ثم اذا صلي المريض قاعدا كيف يقعد؟ الاصح ان يقعد كيف يتيسر عليه —(الفتاوي العالمكيري ص136 ج1)
