Missing Salaah during pregnancy

Question:-

My wife is experiencing severe morning sickness (pregnancy sickness) which plagues her for the entire day. She vomits most of the time when awake and eats very little.

Her only comfort is when she is sleeping, as she doesn’t vomit or feel nauseous then.

Do I have to wake her up for Salaah on time, or is it fine if she makes the Qadhaa when she awakens. I know that it is not ideal but as soon as she wakes up, she has to vomit and its resulting in lots of pain for her.

Is there any concession for her to delay her Salaah without being sinful and me not being sinful for not waking her up and allowing her sleep?

Answer:-

We understand that she is experiencing a great deal of difficulty and you, as the husband, would want to make matters as easy as possible for her. May Allah Ta’ala reward you abundantly and make it a means of her status being elevated. Ameen!

There is no concession for missing Salaah on its fixed and appointed time unless a person is in a state of unconsciousness. However, even in such a case, a person is required to make Qadhaa on regaining consciousness, if less than six Salaah were missed. During the final illness of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, he would attend the congregational Salaah taking the support of two Sahaabah in spite of experiencing a great deal of weakness. The master Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam too, was not excused from Salaah

Yes, if due to extreme weakness she is unable to stand and perform Salaah, then she should sit and perform Salaah. To create further ease, the Wudhu water can be brought to her bed where she may perform Wudhu and perform Salaah. Also, by donning the Khuffain she wouldn’t have to wash her feet repeatedly.

In conclusion, our advice would be to make it as easy as possible for her, but she is not excused from performing Salaah on its appointed time. She should, therefore, perform her Salaah on time and you as her husband, should assist her by awakening her at the time of Salaah.
