The 15th Night of Sha’baan

VIRTUES OF THIS NIGHT

This is a night of Dua and supplication in the court of Allah. It is a night of repentance and seeking forgiveness for one’s sins.

Allah Ta’ala announces on this night, “Is there anyone seeking forgiveness from Me, so that I may forgive him? Is there anyone seeking sustenance so that I may sustain him? Is there anyone involved in some difficulty, so that I may remove him from difficulty?” This lasts until the breaking of dawn.

Hadrat Abu Bakr Radiallahu narrates from Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam: “On the middle night of Sha’baan, Allah Ta’ala’s Mercy comes to the first sky, and He forgives all besides the Mushrikeen and those who harbour enmity for their brethren.”

How to Spend this Night

The night should be spent in the Ibaadat of Allah Ta’ala (by performing Tahajjud and other Nawafil Salaah, recitation of Quraan Sharif, Dua, Zikrullah), and the day should be spent in fasting. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam visited the graveyard on this night and made Dua for the deceased. Men should endeavor to do the same.

We should make a firm resolution to give up sins and live in obedience to Allah Ta’ala. The problems which the Ummah faces, is due to engaging in the disobedience of Allah Ta’ala. It is recorded in a narration that, if one refrains from those things that are Haraam, then he will be the greatest worshipper.

The Dua recited by Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam on the night of Baraat, as narrated by Aisha Radiallahu Anha, is as follows:

أَعُوذُ بِعَفْوِكَ مِنْ عِقَابِكَ، وَأَعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْكَ لاَ اُحْصِيْ ثَنَاءً عَلَيْكَ اَنْتَ كَمَا اَثْنَيْتَ عَلٰي نَفْسِكْ

Through Your forgiveness I seek refuge from your punishment, and through Your pleasure I seek refuge in your displeasure, and I seek refuge in You and from You, I cannot praise You, You are as you have praised Yourself!
