Smart Zikr rings

Question:-

Is it permissible for males to use the new ‘SMART ZIKR RING’?

Answer:-

We haven’t found any prohibition that prevents us from using the digital Zikr ring, particularly if it is free from anything impermissible such as musical tones or beeps, etc. However, it is always better to act upon the method that is closest to the Sunnah such as counting on one’s fingers. The use of the Tasbeeh, or counting on date pits or stones, will also enjoy preference over the Zikr ring, as these have been approved by Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam.

N.B. Our ruling above pertains to using the Zikr ring for counting. However, it should not be worn as a ring, as males are permitted to wear rings of silver only, whilst females are permitted to wear rings of gold and silver. In conclusion, there is no harm in holding the ring in one’s hand and using it to count.

المشهور شرعا إطلاق السبحة بالضم على النافلة. قال في المغرب: لأنه يسبح فيها. ودليل الجواز ما رواه أبو داود والترمذي والنسائي وابن حبان والحاكم وقال صحيح الإسناد عن سعد بن أبي وقاص «أنه دخل مع رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم – على امرأة وبين يديها نوى أو حصى تسبح به فقال: أخبرك بما هو أيسر عليك من هذا أو أفضل؟ فقال: سبحان الله عدد ما خلق في السماء، وسبحان الله عدد ما خلق في الأرض، وسبحان الله عدد ما بين ذلك، وسبحان الله عدد ما هو خالق؛ والحمد لله مثل ذلك، والله أكبر مثل ذلك، ولا إله إلا الله مثل ذلك، ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله مثل ذلك» : فلم ينهها عن ذلك.

وإنما أرشدها إلى ما هو أيسر وأفضل ولو كان مكروها لبين لها ذلك، ولا يزيد السبحة على مضمون هذا الحديث إلا بضم النوى في خيط (رد المحتار ص650 ج1)
