Statement of Imaam Shafi’ee Rahimahullah with regard to Dua

Question:-

Imaam Shafi’ee R.A has stated: “I heard that Duas are accepted by Allah on five nights:

The night of Jumuah

The nights of the two Eids

The first night of Rajab

The fifteenth of Shabaan”

In fact, the experience of people prior to Islam even, shows that Allah would accept their Duas during the month of Rajab. Imaam Abi Dunya R.A has cited several examples of this in his book ‘Mujabu Da’wah.’  Is the above authentic?

Answer:-

The statement of Imaam Shafi’ee Rahimahullah is recorded in ‘Lataa’if-ul-Ma’arif’ on page 137 volume 1.  He states that it has reached us that Duas are accepted on five nights, the night of Jumuah and the two Eids, the first of Rajab and the fifteenth of Shabaan. There is no harm in making Dua on these occasions.

وقال الشافعي رضي الله عنه: بلغنا أن الدعاء يستجاب في خمس ليال: ليلة الجمعة والعيدين وأول رجب ونصف شعبان قال: وأستحب كل ما حكيت في هذه الليالي ولا يعرف للإمام أحمد كلام في ليلة نصف شعبان ويتخرج في استحباب. (لطائف المعارف لابن رجب ص137 ج1)
