Unconsciousness Breaking Wudhu

Jun 21, 2025 | Nullifying Factors Of Wudhu

QUESTION:

Due to low blood sugar, occasionally, one becomes slightly unconscious in the sense where they don’t know what is happening. This feeling doesn’t last for more than a minute. The person doesn’t fall. An onlooker may think that the person is day dreaming. It feels like one has “zoned out”. Does this condition nullify Wudhu?

If the Wudhu is nullified, should one make Qadhaa of Salaah that were performed previously while in this state?

ANSWER:

In principle, if a person faints, blacks out, or becomes unconscious for even a moment, even though he doesn’t fall, his Wudhu will be invalidated immediately [ ].

In the queried scenario, the person’s Wudhu will be nullified due to him becoming unconscious, even though it was momentarily. Consequently, any Salaah in which the above level of unconsciousness is found will be nullified and will have to be repeated.
