Using Islamic terminology

Question:-

I listen to audio recordings of selected Ulama which I find educational, Alhamdulillah. I don’t view video recordings but I am aware that many Ulama, locally & abroad, take video recordings of their lectures. Is this permissible, as I’m sure that since photography is Haraam, video recordings with the speaker in full view, also would not be allowed .I also find some Ulama and Mashaaikh use terms like ‘Wow’ and ‘Awesome’ in their Bayaans. I, personally, find the use of these terms abhorrent. Why use such terms when we should rather be saying ‘Masha’Allah’, ‘Subhanallah’? Is it acceptable for expressions like these to be used, especially by Ulama?

Answer:-

We are not in favour of Ulama appearing on You-Tube or television, nor allowing their pictures to be taken. The Hadith Sharif warns us of the worst punishment being meted out to picture-makers and this is well-known to us, hence, there is no need to elaborate any further on the matter.

Secondly, our Akaabireen adopted simplicity in all matters whether it was in their dressing, food, homes, discourses etc. In their simplicity, the message would reach the educated and uneducated and have a great effect on the hearts of people, resulting in thousands of people reforming and changing their lives. Sometimes, a simple statement of these seniors would cause the entire audience to break down in tears, whilst at other times, merely sitting in their company would be a means of people crying and repenting. This effect can never be achieved with flowery and fancy discussions using impressive expressions, particularly when the heart is void of connection with Allah Ta’ala. We most certainly agree with you that we, as Muslims and followers of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, should be using Islamic terminology in all matters which is full of Barakah and Thawaab.
