Zakaah On Raw Materials
Q1. A Hakeem stocks certain products which he buys like oils, herbs, etc. and as patients need, he mixes it for them. Sometimes he sells it to them, and sometimes he gives it to them. Sometimes these same raw herbs/oils are used during treatment, and not mixed into any concoction. Does Zakaah have to be paid on these raw materials, given that he doesn’t always sell them?
A1. If a person does not have a firm intention that the products are for trade purposes, then there is no Zakaat.
Q2. Would he calculate his Zakaah on the price of the full bottle or what is left in the bottle after a year?
A2. If Zakaat was Waajib upon him for those materials, he would pay Zakaat only for that quantity which is left over?
Q3. If he paid Zakaah on it last year, and this year he still has a quarter of that same bottle left, would he pay Zakaah on it again?
A3. Similarly, he would work out the value for only that which remains.
