QUESTION:
Is Muslim Blocks – a building block set similar to Lego that aims at educating children through the building of the Kaaba and Masjid Nabawi صلي الله عليه وسلم – permissible?
ANSWER:
It is incumbent on every Muslim to revere and respect the salient features of Islam. Allah Ta’ala says in the Quraan Majeed:
وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ شَعَائِرَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا مِن تَقْوَى الْقُلُوبِ (الحجّ آ:32)
And whosoever honours the Symbols of Allah, then it is indeed from the piety of the heart
The Adhaan, day of Jumuah, the Topi, Ka’bah Sharif, etc. are from amongst the symbols of Islam. Hence, it is necessary to revere and respect these symbols of Allah Ta’ala.
Coming to your query, we totally discourage one from purchasing the blocks in question for children. We have already understood from the above verse of the Quraan Sharif that the Ka’aba Sharif and all other matters of Deen ought to be honoured at all times. In fact, disrespecting matters of Deen could result in Kufr at times. If the Ka’aba Sharif and Masjid-un-Nabawi are treated as toys of entertainment, then the sacredness of these symbols of Allah will gradually leave the heart. It is obvious that these blocks will be lying all over the floor, they will be kicked and thrown around; children will run and jump over them, etc. and it will eventually be dumped in the trash bin. Lego blocks symbolising religious symbols were never heard of in the past but is now becoming very common. It seems that this is once again a plot of the Kuffar to destroy the sanctity of matters of Deen within the Ummah. We as Muslims, should therefore, refrain from purchasing such toys for our children. If the Muslim Ummah unite and refrain from purchasing their products, a demand for their products will not remain, resulting in them not manufacturing such items in the future.
We are living in an era when children have no respect for elders, parents, teachers, Kitaabs, the Masjid, etc. Our effort should be to connect them with the genuine and true friends of Allah from whom they are able to acquire respect for matters of Deen. We make Dua that Allah Ta’ala guides us at all times and protects us from the plots of the enemies. Ameen!
