Removing pubic hair

May 3, 2023 | Tahaarah

Question:-

Regarding the pubic hair, up to which point should the hair be removed?

If a person finds some long strands of hair occasionally which indicates that the hair was uncut for a long time, due to it being missed out or not seen, what is the status of a person’s Salaah, particularly if he was an Imaam leading the Salaah?

Answer:-

All the hair below the navel should be removed, whether on the right, left, on the testicles, etc. This should be done weekly, fortnightly, or at least every forty days. If the hair is not removed within a forty-day period, then one will be guilty of perpetrating an act that is Makrooh-e-Tahreemi (extremely abhorrent and close to Haraam).

[Re:- Fataawa Mahmoodiyya pg.473 vol.27].

The famous view is that it is not necessary to remove the hair of the hind private parts as much as it is necessary for one to remove the pubic hair.

Allama Tahtaawi Rahimahullah has considered the removal of the hair on the hind private parts to be Mustahab, and not necessary. However, the view of Allama Shaami Rahimahullah is that removal of these hairs is even more emphasized than that of the pubic hair. In other words, when it is necessary and important to remove pubic hair, it will be all the more important to remove the pubic hair of the hind private parts, so that impurity does not remain attached to the hair. والعانة الشعر القريب من فرج الرجل والمراة ومثلها شعر الدبر بل هو اولٰي باللازالة لئلا يتعلق به شيء من الخارج عند الاستنجاء بالحجر (فتاوي الشامي 481 ج2)

The Salaah of a person will be valid even though one may have been careless in removing the pubic hair, with the proviso that no impurity remains on the hair.

ثم العانة: هي الشعر الذي فوق الذكر وحواليه وحوالي فرجها ويستحب إزالة شعر الدبر خوفا من ان يتعلق به شي من النجاسة الخارجة يتمكن من ازالته بالاستجمار
