Cerebrospinal Fluid leaking from nose

Question:-

If the fluid around the brain, known as cerebrospinal fluid, leaks from the nose after an injury or an operation, will it invalidate one’s Wudhu?

Answer:-

The jurists have stated that if any fluid emerges from the nose, ears, breasts etc. not due to pain, then the fluid will not be considered as impure, hence the Wudhu will remain intact. However, if the fluid emerges due to pain, then it be considered impure, and Wudhu will be nullified. The pain experienced indicates that the fluid is emerging from a wound which would nullify the Wudhu. Now in the queried scenario, the fluid that is emerging from around the brain is most probably emerging from a wound (after surgery), hence Wudhu should be renewed as a precautionary measure.

لا ينقض لو خرج من أذنه ونحوها كعينه وثديه قيح ونحوه كصديد وماء سرة وعين لا بوجع وإن خرج به أي بوجع نقض لأنه دليل الجرح (الدر المختار و حاشية ابن عابدين 1/147)

وقوله “كدم وقيح” إشارة إلى أن ماء الصديد ناقض كماء الثدي والسرة والأذن إذا كان لمرض على الصحيح (مراقي الفلاح 1/39)
