Blood on a tissue after blowing the nose
QUESTION:
At times whilst making Wudhu, blood comes out along with mucus from the nose. Sometimes after completing Wudhu, when wiping the face, particularly the area beneath the nostrils, one notices the presence of blood. It is possible that this is the blood which had come out as a result of one cleaning and blowing the nose while making Wudhu.
1. In this instance, where one notices some blood on the tissue after performing Wudhu and whilst wiping face, the if this breaks the Wudhu?
2. If one blows the nose and notices blood on the tissue, then in such a scenario, should one consider the Wudhu to be broken?
ANSWER:
The Fuqaha have written that if the blood which emerges from the nose is in the form of a blood clot, then it will not nullify one’s Wudhu. However, if it is in the form of flowing blood (i.e., in liquid form), then the Wudhu will be nullified, as this could be because of an internal wound.
1. Now, if the blood noticed on the tissue (was in liquid form) and it is unknown when the blood had emerged, then the Wudhu should be repeated, as it is possible that the blood could have emerged during Wudhu in which case Wudhu was not valid.
2. If one blows the nose and notices blood on the tissue then the above-mentioned ruling of the ‘Fuqaha’ will be applicable.
الرجل إذا استنثر فخرج من أنفه علق قدر العدسة لا ينقض الوضوء كذا في الخلاصة (الفتاوى الهندية 1/11)
وأما العلق النازل من الرأس فغير ناقض.. فالنازل من الرأس إن علقا لم ينقض اتفاقا، وإن سائلا نقض اتفاقا (الدر المختار و حاشية ابن عابدين 1/137)
نعم إذا علم أنه صديد أو قيح من طريق غلبة الظن بإخبار الأطباء أو علامة تغلب على ظن المبتلي يجب (حاشية الطحطاوي 1/57)
