QUESTION:

I came across a book published by an author named C J Ahmed, who argues that pornography and masturbation is not Haraam. He states that his claims are based on the Quraan and authentic Ahaadith. How should we view this individual and should his books be read?

ANSWER:

The author in query clearly holds deviated ideologies. Pornography and masturbation are certainly Haraam in Islam. How can such a vice and evil ever be considered as permissible?

It is recorded in a narration, “The one that marries the hand (that is, engages in masturbation) is cursed.” The curse of Allah Ta’ala is sufficient to permanently destroy a person. If the curse of Allah Ta’ala strikes while a person is driving for example, then the worst accident could occur, and as a result, one could be paralyzed for life making it is a serious matter.  Hadrat Saeed Bin Jubair Radiallahu Anhu states, “Allah Ta’ala punished a nation that used to play with their private parts.” Ataa Rahimahullah states that: “I heard that a nation will be resurrected (on the day of Qiyaamah) in a state that their hands will be pregnant, and I think that they used to masturbate.” The entire creation of Allah Ta’ala will be present on the day of Qiyaamah and it will be known that this person engaged in masturbation. Can there be a greater humiliation than that?! [Re: -Ruhul Ma’aani Pg.11 Vol.18 / Surah Mu’minoon Verse 7, Tafseer Mazhari Pg.365 Vol.6 / Surah Mu’minoon Verse 7.]

Furthermore, the prohibition of casting an evil glance is clearly mentioned in the Quraan Majeed:

﴿ قُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوا فُرُوجَهُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَزْكَىٰ لَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ﴾

[ النور: 30]

“Tell the Mu’mineen men that they should lower their gazes and guard their chastity.”

Now, if casting an evil glance is Haraam, then how can looking at naked men or women engaging in indecent acts ever be Halaal?

The author in query has many other deviated views inter alia, masturbation does not nullify one’s fast, cohabitation with one’s wife during menstruation is permissible, etc.

May Allah Ta’ala guide him to the straight path and save us from such deviation. Ameen!

ALLAH TA’ALA ALONE IN HIS INFINITE KNOWLEDGE KNOWS BEST!
