Missed Rakaats In Salaah

QUESTION:

Please explain the method of completing missed Rakaats in Salaah with Jama’ah; be it 1, 2 , 3, or 4 Rakaats?

ANSWER:

If a person misses one Rakaat, he will recite Surah Fatiha and another Surah.

If a person misses two Rakaats, he will recite Surah Fatiha and another Surah in both Rakaats.

If a person misses three Rakaats, he will recite Surah Fatiha and another Surah in the first Rakaat, then sit for Tashahhud. After that, he will stand to complete the second missed Rakaat in which he will recite Surah Fatiha and another Surah. Then, for the third missed Rakaat, he will recite Surah Fatiha only.

If a person misses four Rakaats, he will recite Surah Fatiha and another Surah in the first two Rakaats, then sit for Tashahhud. After that, he will stand to complete the remaining two Rakaats in which he will recite Surah Fatiha only.

(وَالْمَسْبُوقُ مَنْ سَبَقَهُ الْإِمَامُ بِهَا أَوْ بِبَعْضِهَا وَهُوَ مُنْفَرِدٌ)…(فِيمَا يَقْضِيهِ)… وَيَقْضِي أَوَّلَ صَلَاتِهِ فِي حَقِّ قِرَاءَةٍ, وَآخِرَهَا فِي حَقِّ تَشَهُّدٍ, فَمُدْرِكُ رَكْعَةٍ مِنْ غَيْرِ فَجْرٍ يَأْتِي بِرَكْعَتَيْنِ بِفَاتِحَةٍ وَسُورَةٍ وَتَشَهُّدٍ بَيْنَهُمَا, وَبِرَابِعَةٍ الرُّبَاعِيِّ بِفَاتِحَةٍ فَقَطْ, وَلَا يَقْعُدُ قَبْلَهَا

(وَمِنْهَا) أَنَّهُ يَقْضِي أَوَّلَ صَلَاتِهِ فِي حَقِّ الْقِرَاءَةِ وَآخِرَهَا فِي حَقِّ التَّشَهُّدِ حَتَّى لَوْ أَدْرَكَ رَكْعَةً مِنْ الْمَغْرِبِ قَضَى رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَفَصَلَ بِقَعْدَةٍ فَيَكُونُ بِثَلَاثِ قَعَدَاتٍ وَقَرَأَ فِي كُلٍّ فَاتِحَةً وَسُورَةً وَلَوْ تَرَكَ الْقِرَاءَةَ فِي إحْدَاهُمَا تَفْسُدُ. وَلَوْ أَدْرَكَ رَكْعَةً مِنْ الرُّبَاعِيَّةِ فَعَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَقْضِيَ رَكْعَةً يَقْرَأُ فِيهَا الْفَاتِحَةَ وَالسُّورَةَ وَيَتَشَهَّدُ وَيَقْضِي رَكْعَةً أُخْرَى كَذَلِكَ وَلَا يَتَشَهَّدُ وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ بِالْخِيَارِ وَالْقِرَاءَةُ أَفْضَلُ. هَكَذَا فِي الْخُلَاصَةِ. وَلَوْ أَدْرَكَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ قَضَى رَكْعَتَيْنِ بِقِرَاءَةٍ وَلَوْ تَرَكَ فِي إحْدَاهُمَا فَسَدَتْ وَلَوْ كَانَ الْإِمَامُ يَقْضِي قِرَاءَةً تَرَكَهَا فِي الشَّفْعِ الْأَوَّلِ فِي الشَّفْعِ الثَّانِي فَأَدْرَكَهُ فِيهِ وَاقْتَدَى بِهِ يَأْتِي بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فِيمَا يَقْضِي حَتَّى لَوْ تَرَكَهَا فِيهِ تَفْسُدُ. كَذَا فِي الْوَجِيزِ لِلْكَرْدَرِيِّ.
