Miscellaneous Queries On Hajj
Q1) Is it more virtuous to walk throughout Haj (e.g. From Mina to Arafah, Muzdalifah, etc.) or is it no different if one uses a bus/train for transportation?
A1) A Hadith narrated by Hadrat Abdullah bin Abbas Radiallahu Anhu states that Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said that the Haji travelling on a conveyance is rewarded seventy rewards on each step the conveyance (animal) takes, and a walking Haji will be rewarded seven hundred rewards of the Haram for every step he takes; and each reward of the Haram is equal to a hundred thousand rewards. Similarly ‘Allamah Shaami states that walking Haj is more virtuous than performing Hajj on a conveyance. (Re: Mu’allimul Hujjaj Pg:23) The walking Haj is more virtuous on condition that it does not lead to burnout and fatigue which will affect one’s engagement in Ibaadah.
عَنْ زَاذَانَ، قَالَ: مَرِضَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ مَرْضَةً ثَقُلَ مِنْهَا، فَجَمَعَ إِلَيْهِ بَنِيهِ وَأَهْلَهُ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: مَنْ حَجَّ مِنْ مَكَّةَ مَاشِيًا، حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْهَا، فَلَهُ بِكُلِّ خُطْوَةٍ سَبْعُ مِائَةِ حَسَنَةٍ مِنْ حَسَنَاتِ الْحَرَمِ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: وَمَا حَسَنَاتُ الْحَرَمِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ فَقَالَ: كُلُّ حَسَنَةٍ مِنْهَا أَلْفُ حَسَنَةٍ (مستدرك حاكم ج١ص٤٦٠-٤٦١)
Q2) Is it more virtuous to do a Nafl Haj or Haj-e-Badl on behalf of someone?
A2) It is more virtuous to perform Haj-e-Badl than Nafl Haj.
Q3) It is understood that no cloth can touch a woman’s face while in Ihraam, then what can be said about wearing a Burkah which at times covers the forehead and sides of her face?
A3) In principle it is impermissible for a women to cover the face (which includes the forehead/area between the eyebrows and the nose) in the state of Ihraam.
إِحْرَامُ الْمَرْأَةِ فِي وَجْهِهَا وَإِحْرَامُ الرَّجُلِ فِي رَأْسِهِ (دار قطني, رقم الحديث 2761 )
وليس للمراة ان تنتقب وتغطي وجهها فان فعلت ذالك يوما كاملا فعليها دم (الجوهرة النيرة,ج 1, ص 218:)
(فان فعلت) اي ما ذكر من تغطية الوجه (يوما فعليها دما, وفي الاقل صدقة)
