QUESTION:
What is the age range that a person would be classed in the category of the youth?
ANSWER:
According to the famous view, one falls in the category of the youth until the age of 40. However, Imaam Shafi’ee Rahimahullah is of the opinion that one is considered amongst the youth until the age of 30.
والشباب على وزن سَحَاب جمع شابٍّ، ولا يجمع فاعِلٌ على فَعَالٍ غيره، وقد يجمع على شُبَّان بضم الشين وتشديد الباء، والمشهور أن حدَّ الشباب إلى أربعين، وعند الشافعي إلى ثلاثين (لمعات التنقيح في شرح المشكاة المصابيح ج٦ص٩)
