QUESTION:
Is it permissible for followers of the Hanafi Madhab to say ‘Aameen’ when the Qunoot-e-Naazilah is recited, or is it better to keep silent?
ANSWER:
If the Muqtadis (followers) have memorized the Qunoot-e-Naazilah, then both the Imaam and the Muqtadis may recite the Qunoot softly in their individual capacity. This is the view of the author of ‘Muheet’ and majority of the scholars. However, if the Muqtadis have not memorized the Qunoot, then it will be permissible for the Imaam to recite the Qunoot loudly and the Muqtadis may say ‘Aameen’ softly. The Muqtadis may also remain silent. In conclusion, the congregants may act upon any of the above three choices. [Kifaayatul Mufti Vol:4 Pg:541-542]
