QUESTION:
If a Haafidh is reading Quraan to his wife in preparation for Taraweeh, can he also play games on his phone while he is reciting?
ANSWER:
It is total disrespect to the Quraan Sharif (the words of Allah Ta’ala). If your father or mother is talking to you and you ignore them and play games, will it not be considered the height of disrespect? Allah Ta’ala is addressing us in the Quraan Sharif whilst we are playing games! It is indeed the height of disrespect. One should seek forgiveness and refrain from such a practice in future. The jurists have written that honouring the Quraan Sharif is Waajib.
ومن حرمة القران ان لا يقرا في الأسواق وفي موضع اللغو كذا في القنية )الفتاوى الهندية 5/312)
رَجُلٌ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ فَيَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَكُونَ عَلَى أَحْسَنِ أَحْوَالِهِ يَلْبَسُ صَالِحَ ثِيَابِهِ وَيَتَعَمَّمُ وَيَسْتَقْبِلُ الْقِبْلَةَ؛ لِأَنَّ تَعْظِيمَ الْقُرْآنِ وَالْفِقْهِ وَاجِبٌ، كَذَا فِي فَتَاوَى قَاضِي خَانْ. (الفتاوي الهندية ص316 ج5)
