Impurity
QUESTION:
I have read the Hadith regarding the punishment in the Qabr due to not exercising caution when urinating. Sometimes, after relieving myself, I find drops of urine on the toilet seat. I am not sure how these drops messed on the seat, as it generally occurs after I make Istinjaa with water and toilet paper. Sometimes when standing to put my lower garments back on, water droplets from the Istinjaa will fall onto me, or onto the floor.
1. Am I sinful each time the urine droplets mess the toilet, and is the Hadith referring to this manner of carelessness?
2. Regarding the water from Istinjaa dropping onto myself or my clothes, do my clothes become Napaak and unfit for Salaah?
ANSWER:
The Hadith that you are referring to is as follows:
Ibn ‘Abbas Radiallahu Anhuma reported that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam passed by two graves. He said, “Both (the dead) are being punished, but they are not being punished for a major (sin). One did not safeguard himself from urine. The other carried tales.”
1. If after making Istinjaa, one finds urine droplets on the toilet seat, then one is simply required to clean it and make Istinjaa again. The droplets of urine that generally emerge after relieving oneself is due to not performing Istibra. Istibra refers to a process whereby one gently presses over the urethra (using the index finger of the left hand). There are several practices that will assist one in resolving this problem. The first is to urinate in the crouched or sitting position by using the eastern pan instead of the western pan. This is also the Sunnah method of relieving oneself. Secondly, one may cough after relieving oneself, or press the waist which will assist in releasing any remaining droplets of urine. Thereafter, one should not entertain any doubts.

2. If you are certain that it was urine droplets and it covers the circumference of the hollow of one’s palm or more (which is approximately 3cm in diameter), then Salaah will not be permissible in such clothing. (RE: BEHESHTI ZEWAR PG. 44)
