Using toilet paper to cleanse oneself after Istinja
Question:-
I have understood that, if after urinating, the urine has not spread 2.5 cm around the urine-exit-hole, then we can wipe it with dry toilet paper and that will suffice for purity.
Will this concession of being allowed to wipe with toilet paper also apply to other impurities that exit the male private part, particularly pre-ejaculatory fluid?
Answer:-
It refers to urine and stool only as the word ‘Istinja’ is generally used for urine and stool.
The Mas’ala is as follows:
If urine or stool doesn’t exceed the place of exit (that is the front or back private part), then using water to wash the private part is Sunnah (and not obligatory). Hence, one may utilize toilet paper to cleanse oneself but using water is better.
If urine or stool exceeds the place of exit to the extent that it covers less than the diameter of Dirham (which is estimated to be 2.75cm), then it is Waajib to wash it.
If the urine or stool exceeds the place of exit and covers more than the diameter of a Dirham (which is estimated to be 2.75cm), then it is Fardh to wash it.
