QUESTION:
I work in IT Security for companies. I’ve recently got a job offer at a company which is an equity and investment advisory firm. Is it permissible for me to accept this job working as IT security for them? If a portion of a company’s income is sourced from Haraam means, but a majority of the income is Halaal, will it be permissible to work for the company?
ANSWER:
As Muslims we should try to secure a vacancy where the income is 100% Halaal. The food that we consume has a great impact on our Ibaadaat. However, the jurists have permitted one to work for a company where 51% or more of the income, is from Halaal sources. Hence, if you are contracted to an investment company or chain store, whose majority income is from Halaal sources, then your income will be in order. However, if majority of the company’s income is from Haraam sources, then it will not be permissible to work for such a company.
