QUESTION:
What is the ruling if one were to change clothes while listening to the Quran Kareem, where the Satr will be exposed?
ANSWER:
The Quraan Majeed is the book of Allah Ta’ala, and etiquette demands that the highest degree of respect is afforded to the words of Allah Ta’ala when reading or listening to the Quraan Majeed. Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Quraan Majeed:
And when the Qur’an Majeed is recited, then listen to it attentively and remain silent that you may be shown mercy.
We understand from the above verse that one should listen to the Quraan Majeed attentively, and not while engaging in other activities.
Similarly, to listen to the Quraan Majeed being recited with the Satr exposed is a great form of disrespect, hence one should refrain from doing so. The jurists have written that honouring the Quraan Sharif is Waajib, therefore, one should be in the best condition at the time of Tilaawat by wearing honourable clothing (such as the Kurta), tying a turban and facing the Qiblah.
