QUESTION:
Can Tayammum be made with one hand at a time,or is it necessary to strike both hands on the ground simultaneously?
ANSWER:
The Masnoon method of making Tayammum is to strike both hands on the earth or a brick. If the stone or brick happens to be small (in size), then it is not necessary that the entire hand is covered with dust. If most of the hand or three fingers are covered, then too it will suffice.
In conclusion, one should strike the earth or the brick with three fingers (of both hands) at once (which is the bare minimum) and carry out the Tayammum. In this way, one will be doing the Tayammum in accordance to the Sunnah. [Re: Kitaab-un-Nawaazil Vol:3 Pg161 / Fataawa Uthmaaniyya Vol:1 Pg:379]
