Transfer of impurities
Question:-
1. If one places his impure hand inside a packet of wet wipes, does all of the wipes in the packet become impure?
2. If one touches the cream/lotion inside a container with an impure hand, does all of the cream/lotion become impure?
3. When two wet objects come into contact with each other, under what circumstance will there be a transfer?
4. When a dry, impure object comes into contact with a dry, pure one and there is a transfer of smell, does the pure object become impure even if there are no visible signs of impurity?
Answer:-
1. If one touches wet wipes inside a packet with an impure hand, then the wet wipe that he touches with his hand will become impure. This is because the impurity on the hand will transfer onto the wet wipe (that he is touching), due to the wetness of the wet wipe. However, if the impurity doesn’t penetrate the wet wipe on the top of the packet and reach the wet wipes that are below, then the remaining wet wipes which are below will remain Paak.
2. By inserting an impure hand into a container of lotion or cream, the impurity will enter the cream or lotion. The cream or lotion will wet the area of impurity on the hand and consequently spread in the lotion or cream. However, it is difficult to point out how far the cream has reached, as the impurity will most probably spread in various parts of the container. Secondly, it is not possible to remove the impurity from the container after it spreads, without it affecting the remainder of the cream or lotion. Hence, it will be best to discard the entire container of lotion or cream.
If there is impurity on one’s hand, then one should wash his or her hand before inserting it into a container with lotion or cream.
3. If the Najaasah or impurity is wet and consequently transfers onto another item, then the other item will also become impure. It will then be necessary to wash off the impurity for the item to be considered as Paak. However, if the impurity is dry, then it will not transfer onto another object by merely touching the other object.
4. If the Najaasah is dry on an object then it will not cause the other object to become impure (as explained above) simply because the smell of impurity emits from the clean object.
