Method of Umrah for a Haaidha

Dec 3, 2023 | Hajj

QUESTION:

I would like to know the procedure in which I should fulfil my Umrah as I will be travelling while in the state of Haidh. Our 8 and 10 year old children will be accompanying us. Would it be advisable to keep my 8 year old to perform Umrah later with me, or would it be better to have them both perform Umrah with their father?

ANSWER:

If you are going to first Makkah Sharif to perform Umrah, then you are required to take a Ghusl (if possible) and don your Ihraam before passing the Meeqaat. However, since you will be in a state of Haidh, you will not perform the 2 Rakaats Nafl Salaah before entering the state of Ihraam, which is a Sunnah. On reaching Makkah Sharif, you cannot enter the Haram due to being in a state of Haidh, hence you will not be permitted to make Tawaaf. However, when your husband completes his Tawaaf of Umrah, and commences his Sa’ee, then you may join him in his Sa’ee as the Mas’aa is not considered as part of the Haram according to the Kitaabs of Fiqh. After Sa’ee you will wait to become Paak from your Haidh. When you become Paak, then you should perform the Tawaaf of Umrah and trim your hair equivalent to the fingertip, and come out of Ihraam. This is the method that you will be required to follow for performing Umrah.

If your husband if able to take both your children for the Tawaaf of Umrah, then it will be best that they all complete their Tawaaf of Umrah at the same time. You will be joining them for Sa’ee, so he will have your assistance during Sa’ee. Since they are 8 and 10 years old, we assume that they will easily manage the Tawaaf Insha’Allah. However, if you prefer completing the entire Umrah in sequence, then you may delay the Tawaaf and Sa’ee of one child and both of you may perform the complete Tawaaf and Sa’ee together (at a later stage when you become Paak) and thereafter become Halaal. However, in this instance, both of you will remain in the state of Ihraam until the Umrah is completed.
