Miscellaneous Queries Regarding One’s Husband

Q1. Can my husband, who is an Aalim, attend a gym which caters for both males and females, and has music playing? 

A1. It is not permissible for a person (whether male or female) to attend a gym that has intermingling of genders and music playing in the background. If a person continuously goes to such an environment, then this can lead to him/her committing more sins, which will result in one becoming distant from the mercy of Allah Ta’ala. 

Q2. My husband uploads videos to YouTube, either as a learning aid for Arabic, or for his charity work. He encounters many women as a result of this. Is it permissible to make videos?

A2. It is not permissible for a man to look at a strange woman. The official view of the Darul Ifta is that it will be permissible to make YouTube videos as long as there are no animate objects and music involved. 

Q3. What can be said about my husband eating lavishly and spending on food while he is away on vacation, while we at home, are not enjoying the same?

A3. It is wrong for your husband to spend lavishly on food while he is on vacation when his family is at home eating less quality food. It is his duty that he ensures that his family is eating the same quality food that he is eating. 

قُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوا فُرُوجَهُمْ ذَٰلِكَ أَزْكَىٰ لَهُمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ

(سورة النور 30)

وَقُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَـٰرِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوجَهُنَّ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَىٰ جُيُوبِهِنَّ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ ءَابَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ ءَابَآءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَآءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِىٓ إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِىٓ أَخَوَٰتِهِنَّ أَوْ نِسَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُنَّ أَوِ ٱلتَّـٰبِعِينَ غَيْرِ أُولِى ٱلْإِرْبَةِ مِنَ ٱلرِّجَالِ أَوِ ٱلطِّفْلِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَظْهَرُوا عَلَىٰ عَوْرَٰتِ ٱلنِّسَآءِ وَلَا يَضْرِبْنَ بِأَرْجُلِهِنَّ لِيُعْلَمَ مَا يُخْفِينَ مِن زِينَتِهِنَّ وَتُوبُوٓا إِلَى ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

سورة النور 31))

حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ، قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ مَسْرُوقٍ فِي دَارِ يَسَارِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، فَرَأَى فِي صُفَّتِهِ تَمَاثِيلَ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏ “‏ إِنَّ أَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَذَابًا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الْمُصَوِّرُونَ ‏”‏‏.

صحيح البخاري 5950))

لِيُنفِقْ ذُو سَعَةٍ مِّن سَعَتِهِ

(سورة الطلاق 7)

وَشَرْعًا: (هِيَ الطَّعَامُ وَالْكُسْوَةُ وَالسُّكْنَى) وَعُرْفًا هِيَ: الطَّعَامُ
