Missing a Rakaat as a result of missing the Imaam in Ruku

Question:-

If a Musalli joins the Imaam in Ruku, at which point will we say that he got the Rakaat, and at which point will we say that he lost the Rakaat?

Answer:- 

If he joins the Imam in the Ruku posture in such a manner that both the Imaam and the Muqtadi share the same posture at the same time, (that is, both are in the actual Ruku posture at the same time), then he has completed the Rakaat. However, if he has commenced his Salaah by saying the ‘Takbeer-e-Tahreemah’ but didn’t yet go into Ruku, and the Imaam raised his head from Ruku, then he has missed the Rakaat.

إذا جاء إلى الإمام وقد رفع الإمام رأسه من الركوع، فدخل في صلاته وركع وسجد معه السجدتين لا يصير مدركا للركعة، (المحيط البرهاني ص404 ج1)
