Question:-
Is there any proof in the Kitaabs of Hadith or advice from our Mashaa’ikh with regards to reciting Surah Yaseen 41 times for a sick person (so that he may be cured from his illness)?
Answer:-
One of the names of Surah Yaseen is, ‘Qaadiyyah’, which means that by recitation of this Surah, the needs of a person will be fulfilled. However, the norm amongst people is that one has to read Surah Yaseen 41 times for his needs to be fulfilled, whereas this is not proven from any narration. The maximum that can be said is that this Amal may have been prescribed by some pious person and proven successful, hence, people recite Surah Yaseen 41 times for the fulfilment of their needs. There is no problem in doing so, as long as one does not regarding it as obligatory or a Sunnah.
