Selecting a Mufti of one’s choice
Question:-
Is it necessary for an individual to follow the Mufti one’s forefathers followed, or is one allowed to select another Mufti?
Answer:-
It is not necessary to follow a Mufti that was followed by one’s forefathers. One should follow a Mufti that one has trust and reliance in, and by following his teachings, one will be able to lead his or her life in accordance to Shariah.
The Mufti should possess the following qualities:

He must possess the necessary knowledge of Shariah.

He must be a reliable person.

He must have a temperament of Fiqh, possess a sound mind, and have the ability of pondering in the Masaa’il of Deen.

He must be a person that refrains from all forms of sins.

He should refrain from evil characteristics and have a disinclination towards Dunya.
