Gelatine capsules

Question:-

Is ethanol for medicinal purposes halal? Also, what is the ruling regarding gelatine capsules?

Answer:-

1. If alternate medication (that is ethanol free) is not available on the market, then you may utilize the medication containing ethanol. If ethanol-free medication is available, then you should purchase that medication instead.

2. If the gelatine used in the capsules were derived from animals that were not slaughtered in accordance to the Shari’ee method of slaughtering, then it will be Haraam to utilize it. However, if the gelatine was derived from animals that were slaughtered in accordance to Shariah, or it was derived from vegetables, then there is no harm in utilizing such capsules.
