Selling Diluted Zam Zam

QUESTION:

Is it permissible to dilute Zam Zam water with ordinary water for resale purposes, in order to make a profit?

ANSWER:

If one intends selling diluted Zam Zam, then it should be clearly stated on the packaging that it is diluted. If one sells diluted Zam Zam giving the impression that it is undiluted (as how everyone loves to consume), this will be tantamount to deception.

Consider the following Hadith:

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال‏:‏ من حمل علينا السلاح فليس منا ومن غشنا، فليس منا‏ (‏رواه مسلم‏ # 170)‏‏

Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “He who takes up arms against us is not from amongst us, and he who deceives us is not from amongst us.”
