Taraweeh In The Haramain Shareefain

QUESTION:

It appears that in the Haramain Shareefain, they have resorted to performing only 8 Rakaats of Taraweeh. What should one do in the case where he prefers the view of 20 Rakaats being Sunnah Muakkidah?

ANSWER:

It should be borne in mind that as Muslims, we are commanded to follow Quraan and Sunnah and not a particular Muslim country. What transpires in Makkah Mukarramah and Madinah Munawwarah is not the benchmark of Shari’ah. As such, there are many vices taking place in these Mubaarak Lands which are completely against Shari’ah.

In the queried scenario, we have been commanded to perform 20 Rakaats of Taraweeh. Hence, after the 8 Rakaats of Taraweeh in the Haram, one should complete his remaining 12 Rakaats preferably in congregation (by a few people getting together) or individually.
