Usage of amulets
QUESTION:-
There is an audio clip circulating wherein it is mentioned that a person should refrain from using amulets as this is linked to magic. Is it permissible to seek assistance from an Aamil and wear/use amulets prescribed by the Aamil?
ANSWER:-
We do not agree with what has been mentioned in the clip. There are people who are experts in countering Sihr and the evil effects of Jinn, using the Quraan Sharif, Hadith Sharif and Arabic numerals. The Arabic alphabets each represent a numeral hence, there is no harm in using these alphabets in amulets. This is a science on its own which is mastered by individuals referred to as ‘Aamils’ and not “magicians”, as mentioned in the clip. Moosa Alaihis Salaam also countered the magicians of Firoun and overpowered them by the permission of Allah Ta’ala. This in no way means that Moosa Alaihis Salaam was a magician; in fact, he was a Nabi of Allah Ta’ala.
The usage of amulets is proven from the Hadith Sharif, hence the usage of amulets is in no way magic with the proviso that the contents are acceptable in Shariah. Yes, it is undoubtedly better to recite verses of the Quraan Sharif and Duas from the Hadith Sharif instead of using amulets, but this does not mean that the usage of amulets is prohibited. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam would recite Surah Ikhlaas, Surah Falaq and Surah Naas, blow on his hands and pass his blessed hands over his body before sleeping every night. Similarly, he used to recite Duas for the protection of his beloved grandsons, and blow on them as well. This proves that reciting and blowing on oneself is superior but again, in no way does it indicate that the usage of Taweez is considered as magic, or prohibited.
Yes, if the Taweez contains words of Shirk, or the meaning of the contents is unknown, then the usage of such amulets are prohibited.
