Using cannabis oil

Question:-

A friend of mine heard in a bayan that using CBD, which is an oil extracted from weed or marijuana, is permissible as it is not intoxicating. However, he requires confirmation on the matter.

Answer:-

The cannabis plant, also known as Marijuana, as well as weed, are commonly used as intoxicants. Cannabis oil, which is derived from the cannabis plant, also has the potential of giving one the feel of being a bit high (as recorded on the internet), thus placing it under the category of intoxicants. Hence, under normal circumstances, its usage will not be permissible.

However, if Deeni conscious doctors recommend its usage as a treatment for one’s illness if there isn’t any alternative to it, and there is hope of one being cured by it, then its usage will be permitted.

فإن الاستشفاء بالمحرم إنما لا يجوز إذا لم يعلم أن فيه شفاءً؛ أما إذا علم أن فيه شفاء، وليس له دواء آخر غيره فيجوز الاستشفاء به (المحيط البرهاني ص116 ج6)
