Validity of Wudhu and Salaah after conducting plastic surgery
Question:-
What is the view of the Ulama and Muftis in regards to the following Mas’ala? I am a student of medical science who is working with a doctor that is an expert plastic surgeon. I want to know the ruling in regards to thinning the lips or a thick nose through plastic surgery. The area that is operated upon is not covered with plastic from the exterior. It is referred to as ‘plastic surgery’ but no plastic covering is used from the exterior. Water easily reaches those parts of the body which need to be washed in Wudhu and Ghusl. My question is, if a person undergoes such a procedure then will his Salaah will be valid or not? Also, if a person is restless because of his lips or nose being thick and such restlessness will eventually lead to insanity, meaning that he is so restless that he will fall ill (due to not being able to sleep, not having an appetite to eat, restlessness, etc.) then will conducting surgery for such an ill person be permissible or not?
Answer:-
Undergoing plastic surgery with the sole objective of beautification and adornment is not desirous. However, if such surgery is conducted to remove some natural deficiency or defect then there doesn’t seem to be any harm in doing so, in terms of Shariah. According to your query, when carrying out the procedure, plastic is not used to cover the nose, hence the said procedure will not interfere with one’s Wudhu or Salaah.
