Vehicle Finance Department

QUESTION:

I am currently working in the vehicle finance department of a car dealership, while receiving only a basic salary from the dealership. I am not receiving any interest-based or insurance benefits. Is my salary and job permissible?

ANSWER:

Fundamentally, it will be permissible to work for such a company since, from our understanding, your salary is paid from the profits accrued after selling the vehicle. However, if you have to directly deal with interest-related transactions, then you may excuse yourself from such transactions as this will be assisting in wrong and sinful actions.

وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّـهَ إِنَّ اللَّـهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ (المائدة)
عن جابر قال لعن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم آكل الربا وموكله وكاتبه وشاهديه وقال هم سواء. (رواه مسلم)

( ويكره ) تحريما ( بيع السلاح من أهل الفتنة إن علم ) لأنه إعانة على المعصية ( وبيع ما يتخذ منه كالحديد ) ونحوه يكره لأهل الحرب ( لا ) لأهل البغي لعدم تفرغهم لعمله سلاحا لقرب زوالهم بخلاف أهل الحرب زيلعي قلت وأفاد كلامهم أن ما قامت المعصية بعينه يكره بيعه تحريما وإلا فتنزيها نهر (الدر المختار و حاشية ابن عابدين 4/268)
