Second Nifaas should be according to first

Feb 3, 2022 | Haidh And Nifaas

Question:-

When a lady had her first child, her Nifaas lasted for  thirty days. With her second child, should her Nifaas period last for a maximum period of thirty days, or, if she bleeds for more than thirty days, is the bleeding still considered as Nifaas? If not, will it be considered as Istihaadha?

Answer:-

If the first Nifaas of a woman was 30 days, it is not necessary that her second Nifaas will also be 30 days. The maximum period of Nifaas is 40 days according to the Hanafi school of thought. Therefore, if the woman’s second Nifaas exceeded 30 days but terminated at the maximum duration of 40 days, or less than 40 days (such as 37 days or 38 days etc.), then the entire term (of 37 or 38 or 40 days) will be considered as Nifaas.
