Mani and Madhi

QUESTION:

What is the difference between “Mani” and “Madhi” and the rulings pertaining to it?

ANSWER:

It is recorded in Binaayah, the commentary of Hidaayah, that ‘Mani’ refers to the liquid substance that gushes forth and emerges with desire. It is from this liquid that one conceives a child, and it necessitates Ghusl. ‘Madhi’ refers to the liquid substance that emerges when a man engages in foreplay with his wife (or engages in lustful glances and thoughts). He is required to wash the private part and renew his Wudhu in this instance.
