Sin Of Sodomy And Discarding Salaah
QUESTION:
A Muslim is gay but he is punctual with 5 times Salaah. Is he considered better than a person who isn’t punctual with his Salaah?
ANSWER:
In Islam the act of sodomy is an absolutely disgusting and major sin. Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Quraan Majeed:
“Do you pursue a shameful deed that no man has ever committed before? “You shamefully pursue men with desire instead of women! You are certainly an evildoing nation.” (Surah Al A’raaf)
Today, our degenerate society, without any sense of shame and modesty, has degraded itself to the level of animals. Homosexuality committed by both males and females is a horrible crime which was committed first by the people of the Nabi Lut Alaihis Salaam. By way of punishment, they were subjected to an ignoble penalty. Their towns were overturned and stones were hurled on them from high above. There emerged in their habitations the Dead Sea, in which no living being exists to this day. The eminent scholar of Hadith, Muhammad ibn Sirin Rahimahullah, adds that donkeys and pigs are the only animals to commit sodomy.
(Adapted from The Path to Paradise -Allah se Sharm Kijiye)
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:
“Whoever you find doing the action of the people of Lut, execute the one who does it and the one to whom it is done.” (Tirmidhi #1456, Abu Dawud #4462 and Ibn Majah #256)
In another narration, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:
“Allah’s curse be upon those who do the action of the people of Lut.”
Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam repeated this curse thrice! (Sahih Ibn Hibban #4417)
Hence, we conclude that the one who engages in such a sin is under the direct curse of Allah Ta’ala.
Notwithstanding the above, to discard one’s Salaah intentionally is also a major sin. Consider the following Ahaadith:
Hadhrat Jaabir bin Abdullah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that he heard Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam saying:
1. “To leave out Salaah is to be joined with Kufr.”
2. “To leave out Salaah is to be joined with Kufr and Shirk.”
3. “Leaving out of Salaah is the only difference between Imaan and Kufr.”
(Targheeb #806)
Hadhrat Naufal ibn Mu’aawiyah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that he heard Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam saying:
“A person who has missed one Salaah is like one who has lost all his family and wealth.” (Sahih Ibn Hibban #1468)
Therefore, since both are major sins and fully under the disobedience of Allah Ta’ala, it should not be compared as such. Both sins (the sin of sodomy and the sin of omitting Salaah intentionally) should be discarded as one does not know which sin may lead one to Jahannum.
ALLAH TA’ALA ALONE IN HIS INFINITE KNOWLEDGE KNOWS BEST!
