Burying Multiple People in One Qabr

QUESTION:

I wanted to enquire about the permissibility of a child being buried in the same Qabr as a parent? Is it permissible for either son/daughter to be buried with their father/mother?

ANSWER:

Generally, it is not permissible to bury more than one person in a grave. However, it is acceptable at the time of necessity. In the queried scenario, there is no need to do so, hence it will not be permitted.

وَلَا يُدْفَنُ اثْنَانِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةٌ فِي قَبْرٍ وَاحِدٍ إلَّا عِنْدَ الْحَاجَةِ فَيُوضَعُ الرَّجُلُ مِمَّا يَلِي الْقِبْلَةَ ثُمَّ خَلْفَهُ الْغُلَامُ ثُمَّ خَلْفَهُ الْخُنْثَى ثُمَّ خَلْفَهُ الْمَرْأَةُ وَيُجْعَلُ بَيْنَ كُلِّ مَيِّتَيْنِ حَاجِزٌ مِنْ التُّرَابِ، كَذَا فِي مُحِيطِ السَّرَخْسِيِّ، وَإِنْ كَانَا رَجُلَيْنِ يُقَدَّمُ
