Dog sitting in water

Question:-

I understand that a dog in itself is not impure, but rather its hair is pure while its saliva, urine and excreta is impure. Even if the hair of the dog is pure, I have read a fatwa that says if the dog is wet, we have to wash our hands or cloth 7 times if touched, because the wetness is most probably from the dog licking itself. However, if it rains and a dog becomes wet because of the rain, will it be regarded as pure or impure, as it may have licked its body from before? Similarly, after raining, if a dry dog walks on a rain-soaked road or puddle, or sits in a wet place, will that place or puddle be regarded as pure or not?

Answer:-

If a dog becomes wet due to rainwater falling on it, then it will not be considered as Napaak. This is simply because the water merely came into contact with the hair of the dog and flowed away. The hair of the dog is not considered as Najis.

On the contrary, if the dog sat in a puddle of water and it resulted in the entire body of the dog getting wet to the extent that the water reached the skin (of the dog), then the water will become Napaak as the skin of the dog is Najis. Secondly, the sweat of the dog is impure. Hence, when the dog gets wet, then the sweat of the dog mixes with the water as well, causing it to become Napaak.
