Purifying Najaasat Of An Infant

Jan 28, 2026 | Tahaarah

Q1. My baby is 3 months old. If the baby vomits on my clothes or bed, do I have to wash it 3 times, or is sprinkling with water sufficient? If the baby urinates on my clothes or bed, do I have to wash it 3 times, or is sprinkling with water sufficient? If the baby makes stool on my clothes or bed, do I have to wash it 3 times, or is sprinkling with water is sufficient?

A.1 One will have to wash it until the traces of the urine, stool or vomit are no longer visible.

Q2. If my baby urinates in his nappy and I remove the nappy and bath him in stagnant water without washing him first, does the water become Napaak? And how will the water be classified if I do wipe him with a wet wipe beforehand?

2. Stagnant water becomes impure by impurity falling into it. Wiping with a wet wipe does not constitute washing, unless a few drops of water drips from the body. Hence, the stagnant water will still become impure even though wet wipes were used before placing the baby in the water.

Note: The age of the child does not affect the ruling of his or her urine, stool or vomit in the Hanafi Mathab. Vomit necessitates washing of one’s clothes and bedding, if it is more than a mouthful.
