Question:-
Can an Imaam sit on a chair ( due to illness) and lead the congregation in Salaah?
Answer:-
The Imaamat of an Imaam that sits on a chair and leads the Salaah is not valid. In the queried scenario, the Imaam will be performing Sajdah by indication, whereas the Muqtadis (followers behind the Imaam) will be performing Sajdah in a perfect manner (i.e. by bowing down fully in the posture of Sajdah).
The Salaah of one performing a complete Sajdah (by bowing down fully in the posture of Sajdah) behind an Imaam that is performing Sajdah through indication is not valid, as the Imaam (in this instance) is of a lower standard than his followers. [Re:- Fataawa Darul Uloom Zakariyya Pg.367 Vol. 2]
