Musaafir During Hajj

QUESTION:

I arrived in Makkah Mukarramah on Thursday (22 May 2025). I will stay in Makkah Mukarramah for 9 days before I move to Aziziyah, wherein I will remain for 4 days. Thereafter, the 5 days of Hajj will commence. I intend to stay on for 4 days after Hajj. Should I read Qasr or do Itmaam?

ANSWER:

Makkah and Aziziyah are now considered as one place due to Ittisaal being found i.e. the area between Makkah and Aziziyah are now linked and joined to each other. However, Mina is still considered as a separate place. As such, you will be a Musaafir due to your stay being less than 15 days. Hence, you will make Qasr (not perform full Salaah).

وَأما مِقْدَار مُدَّة الْإِقَامَة فخمسة عشر يَوْمًا عندنَا وَهَذَا إِذا نوى إِقَامَة خسمة عشر يَوْمًا فِي مَوضِع وَاحِد

فَأَما إِذا نوى إِقَامَة خَمْسَة عشر يَوْمًا فِي موضِعين فَإِن كل وَاحِد مِنْهُمَا أصلا بِنَفسِهِ فَلَا يكون أَحدهمَا تبعا للْآخر فإن نوى أن يقيم بمكة ومنى فإنه لا يصير مقيما

ولو نوى الإقامة خمسة عشر يوما في موضعين فإن كان كل منهما أصلا بنفسه نحو مكة ومنى (الفتاوى الهندية 140/1)
