Experiencing menses after the age of menopause

Nov 5, 2021 | Haidh And Nifaas

Question:-

If a person experiences bleeding after menopause, then will it be considered as Haidh?

Answer:-

Normally a woman does not menstruate after the age of fifty five years, but if she gets absolutely red or black blood, it is Haidh; however, if the blood is yellow, green, or muddy-coloured, it is not Haidh provided she never got this type of blood during her earlier periods. If she did get this type of blood during her earlier periods, then this too would also be counted as Haidh. If the colour of the blood is different from that of the blood during her earlier periods, then it is not Haidh but Istihaaza.

Allaamah Shaami Rahimahullah has also mentioned that even after having reached menopausal age, if a woman experiences bleeding according to her previous habit, that will be considered as Haidh and her “Iyaas” will be consequently nullified.
